The reconstruction of Virginia Street in Reno’s Midtown will move north in the New Year.

On Monday workers on the project that’s updating the street and widening the sidewalks will extend the project from Center Street to Cheney Street on the east side of Virginia.

And in mid-January the project will extend further north to Stewart Street, according to the Regional Transportation Commission.

Crews will remove existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters. They’ll extend boardwalks to businesses that are along the way, according to the RTC. The Commission said they will notify businesses that will be getting temporary boardwalks.

The work is shifting primarily to concrete work and sidewalks during the colder months. When the weather warms they’ll work on paving, the RTC states.

Also, early this month Center Street at Virginia will be closed for work on the roundabout project that’s expected to wrap up in March 2020.
